30-minute husky safari – a short but unforgettable experience

Discover the world of huskies and experience an authentic dog sled ride in the Lapland wilderness! This shorter safari is ideal for families with children.

The programme begins with a driving briefing, covering the basics of steering the team and safety instructions. After the briefing, you’ll head over to the dogs and set off on a dog-sled ride lasting around 20 minutes.

On the safari, one adult acts as the driver, whilst the other enjoys the ride from the passenger seat, admiring the Lapland scenery. Each sledge or summer cart carries two adults and possibly one child.

After the ride, there’s time to meet the huskies, give them a stroke and ask the guide more about their lives, training and daily routines. The whole programme lasts about 30 minutes.

Please note that in October and November we cannot guarantee sufficient snow conditions for a sleigh safari. In such cases, the safaris will take place in safe and easy-to-drive summer carts. The experience is just as memorable as a sleigh safari on snow, as the focus is on the enthusiastic huskies, Lapland’s nature and an authentic dog-sledding experience. We always run the safaris on a sled if conditions permit, but for safe sledding we generally need at least around 20 cm of well-trodden snow on the route.

Arrival time: Please arrive at the venue about 15 minutes before the programme begins. This will give you plenty of time to get dressed at your leisure and prepare for the experience.

To make your journey as comfortable as possible, we recommend putting on your warmest winter clothes and your own winter boots just before the safari begins. This will make your drive to Ranua more relaxed and ensure you remain comfortable before heading out into the open air.

In winter, the best way to dress is in several warm layers, which will keep you comfortable throughout the safari.

Please note that the journey to Pohjasperä may take slightly longer than your sat-nav/GPS estimates, so allow plenty of time for the journey.
Please arrive at the meeting point well in advance of the safari’s start time so that you have plenty of time to get ready and take part in the driving briefing. The safari will set off on schedule, and unfortunately we cannot delay the departure. For this reason, we are unable to wait for anyone arriving more than 5 minutes late.
